Dear TikTok
Guest Post by Leah Reedy-St. Thomas
Dear TikTok,
when I first met you,
I only ever thought of you as a joke.
But I thought that I should give us a chance. a chance for us to get to know each other, and we did.
you have changed my life in many ways.
you’ve taught me silly dances,
you’ve given me more friends,
you’ve introduced me to better songs,
and you have inspired me to let out my inner crackhead.
I never thought
that you could ever be as bad as the rumors and gossip about you were so i stuck with you. but I soon learned that you were a drug
and I was just getting addicted.
you messed up my sleep schedule,
you made me procrastinate,
and worst of all,
you screwed up my city girl summer.
we have a very toxic love-hate relationship, so toxic that I just keep telling myself
that you are just an app.
an app that I got as a joke.
a joke that we both know is now reality.
we both know that I will continue
telling my friends and classmates that I am writing this poem about you as a joke but deep down,
we both know that’s not true.
because of you,
I am constantly fighting a war.
a war that my iphone storage wants me to win by deleting you. but I just can’t.
so for now I can say that you won this battle.
lots of love, Leah
